RECAP: Next time we lose a close one, I will try to look back and remember this victory. We had no business winning this bet. With about 5 minutes left and the score tied, Artemi Panarin sent a beautiful pass to Artem Anisimov to put The Blackhawks up by one. That goal wasn't enough though. We had to sit and wait for the Blues to pull their goalie. Once they did it seemed like The Blackhawks would never get it out of their defensive zone. Luckily with 3 seconds left in the game, Tanner Kero was able to hit the empty net from the opposite blue line. Thanks Tanner! We finished strong last week, lets start strong this week. First NBA picks since the All Star Break. Lets get it!
Miami Heat -1.5 at Dallas Mavericks
7:30pm central
(11 units wagered, 10 units won)
The Heat sit at 9th in the Eastern Conference, only one game back from Detroit. The Heat had an abysmal start to the season. They were 11-30 going into a game against Houston on January 17th. They won that game and the next 12 after. They are 16-2 since that date. Erik Spoelstra is looking like a miracle worker, and definitely is in discussion for coach of the year. Dallas is currently in 11th in the Western Conference. I am sure Rick Carlisle has given this team delusional hope of making the playoffs. They just aren't that good. Dallas is last in the league in ppg, and one of two teams who average less than 100 ppg. That isn't a recipe for success. Miami also ranks 6th in defensive efficiency while Dallas ranks 16th. Miami has the better offense and better defense here. I believe in this game, Miami will take another step forward, and Dallas another step back. Hassan Whiteside should be able to dominate Nerlens Noel, and the other Dallas big men in the paint. Last game he had 22 points and 17 rebounds in his 37th double double of the season. Hassan should record number 38 tonight in a victory over the Mavs. Take The Miami Heat who are truly on fire.
Minnesota Timberwolves -5 at Sacremento Kings
9:30pm central
(11 units wagered, 10 units won)
If you look back on some of my previous writings, you will notice I love to bet against The Charlotte Hornets. The Charlotte Hornets were able to beat the NEW Kings by 14 points. I think Minnesota is a better team than Charlotte. Sacramento just lost Boogie, and should look like a chicken with their head cut off. If I were to ask my readers to name 3 or 4 players on this Kings roster... I am pretty positive most of them wouldn't be able to. The T-Wolves have a bright future under coach Tom Thibodeau, with budding stars Andrew Wiggins and Karl Anthony Towns gearing up to be the next big thing. I believe this team will only improve as the season goes on. Maybe they even grab the 8 seed in The West. The Kings were fighting for a playoff spot while they had Demarcus Cousins. Cousins was by far the best player on the roster, and responsible for most of their wins. I expect this Kings team to resemble the Brooklyn Nets, more than a team sitting in 9th one game out of the playoffs, going forward. Take Minnesota tonight as they help send Sacramento down the standings.
